Science  Lesson  Plan  Week……..                                        Topic : The Atmosphere

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Key Concept

Air : Air is a mixture of gas. It surround our body and it’s made up of nitrogen 78% oxygen 21%. The remaining 1% is made up of Argon 0.93%, carbon dioxide 0.03% and other trace gas 0.003 %, Water vapour is also present in the air in varying amounts.

Atmosphere : The atmosphere is a mixture of gases that surround the Earth. It made up of a mixture of gases, water, vapor, cloudy, ozone et.c.

The layers of the Earth’s atmosphere : Our atmosp  here can be divided into five layers. Name the layers of the atmosphere starting from the one closest to the Earth.

Troposphere : This layers is the closest to the ground. Its about 10 km

height and contains 75% of  The atmosphere gases and the cloud, water, vapor are still.

Stratosphere: extends to the height of 50 km. There is no cloud here

and the air still. Therefore, most planes fly in this layer of air. The stratosphere contains a thin layer of ozone. This ozone layer absorbs the  harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. These rays cause sunburn and skin cancer.

Mesosphere : Beyond the stratosphere is  mesosphere, the air here is very cold

and thin and it extends to the height 80 km.

Thermosphere : It’s the fourth layer from the ground. It’s found between 80

and 800 km above the Earth and satellite fly here.

Objective : Students will be able to

·   Identify the difference between the air and the atmosphere.

·   Differentiate the layers of the Earth’s atmosphere.

·   Explain the atmosphere and its composition.

Materials

·    Baloons
